The job application materials included in this section demonstrate the professional writing skills I developed throughout this semester. Before taking this course, I did not fully understand how important organization, formatting, and tone are when applying for jobs. Through the résumé, cover letter, and thank-you letter assignments, I learned how to present myself professionally and communicate my qualifications effectively.
Résumé
One of the most important lessons I learned was how to tailor documents to a specific audience. My résumé focuses on my customer service experience and highlights the communication, teamwork, and leadership skills I developed while working at McDonald’s and as a waitress. I learned how to organize information clearly and make the document easy for employers to read.
Cover Letter
The cover letter helped me explain my experiences and qualifications in greater detail. I learned how to use a professional tone while also making the letter personal and engaging. Writing the cover letter taught me how to connect my experiences to the needs of an employer and explain why I would be a strong candidate.
Thank-you Letter
The thank-you letter showed me the importance of professionalism and follow-up communication. Even though it is a short document, it demonstrates respect, appreciation, and strong communication skills. Revising these documents based on feedback helped me improve grammar, clarity, and organization.
These materials reflect my ability to present myself professionally and apply effective business communication strategies. I believe the skills I learned from these assignments will help me in future job searches and professional opportunities.
